Location: Ferries leave from Battery Park in Manhattan and Liberty State Park in New Jersey.

Here she stands in all her glory. You must walk to the top, and just walk around the nice park and take in the views from the island. Remember in winter to have a hat and gloves as its freezing out there. There is a small tourist shop and a small place to get hot food (Not that its good food). Its is a must if you are in NY.

I didn't think much of the Statue of Liberty. There's always long queues and even if you come early it's crowded. It can take over 2 hours to get to the top, only to get there and it's truly disappointing. Also worth noting is that there's on air- conditioning and it get unbelievably hot in the summer.

However, Liberty island is very nice and even better is that included in the price is Ellis Island which most definitely is worth a visit.

At present, you can't go to the top of the Statue of Liberty, though you can visit Liberty Island and look up at it. However, on the same ferry trip you go to Ellis Island, where there is a great museum on immigration -- that's what makes the trip really worthwhile.

On a major holiday I recommend that you arrive at Battery Park (if you are leaving from NY) before 10:00 AM. Major holidays can have security lines that take up to two hours. If you don\'t get to the ferry docks until noon, you are not going to be getting to Liberty Island until at least 2:30 PM. This means you will have barely any time to see the Statue of Liberty, and little if any time to see Ellis Island, which is included with the ferry ticket. Boats stop dropping off passengers at Ellis Island at 3:40. SO, my best advice...get to battery park before 10:00 AM, AND buy your \"Monument Pass\" at least a week in advance if traveling on a major holiday (i.e. Christmas, New Years, Fourth of July).
