Location: 1000km north of Brisbane
If you travel to Mackay in Queensland you’ll find quite a large city with many different things to explore. Mackay has long been regarded as the gateway to the Whitsunday’s and is also a good place to step off if you wish to explore the Central Queensland coal mines, Eungella national park or one of the many local attractions such as the pioneer river, Northern beaches or sugar cane Mills.
Many tourists see Mackay mainly as a stepping off point for the Whitsunday islands or to the Great Barrier Reef. There are literally hundreds of islands accessible from Mackay, Such as Brampton Island, Newry Island and all of the Whitsunday islands for example Long Island, Daydream Island, South Moll Island, Hamilton Island and others.
Even though Mackay is not on many tourists list of places to visit, it is well worth stopping for a look. Mackay lies approximately 1,000km north of Brisbane and 1,000km south of He can see pictures so it is ideally placed as a stopover point if you’re driving and you could easily spend a week there looking out the many sites without becoming bored.
