Location: Drive along the coast, you'll find it.

Knysna is a very chilled place to visit. Its on the coast, but know cut off by a lagoon. Sea horses live in this lagoon and can be spotted from time to time. It is also well known for its oysters, which are very cheap and delicious. Its a must if you are doing the garden route, just go and chill!

My husband and I visited in South Africa during November 2003 - commencing our trip in Plettenburg Bay and ending it in Cape Town. From all the towns we visited along the coast during our trip, Knysna was the only one we were disappointed in. We found it 'shabby' and slightly intimidating. There were a number of beggars in the town and many of the shops were locked and required you to ring a bell to be allowed in. We only stayed an hour or so and to be honest that was an hour too long! Other than Knysna, the other towns from Plettenburg Bay down to Cape Town were lovely and very welcoming.
