Lynton
This is a small hillside village, at the top there is Lynton and down below the hillside at sea level there is Lynmouth. Both are very pretty tourist villages. There is plenty of walks and things to do for all ages. There is a fanastic little cliff railway that joins the 2 villages together. We did the walk to Watersmeet and this walk was spectular and very enjoyable, nice slopes and not to many big hills etc. Loads of places to stay and eat, if going for a long weekend you may need to book ....

New Zealand - Stewart Island
Excellent "eco-tour" - Ulva's Tours
We went on Ulva's Tour of Ulva Island, off Stewart Island at the very south of New Zealand. It was excellent. We went by water taxi to a small island off Stewart Island and Ulva, a local Maori woman, gave us a fascinating, informative and friendly introduction to the ecology and conservation of Stewart Island native flora and fauna. It was one of the highlights of our trip and well worth it. Excellent tour and superb guide - a gifted teacher!!!

Kjerag
Kjerag is a mountain "plateau" next to Lysefjorden. The view is amazing on nice summer days. And you get a pretty great view because the plateau is located 1000 meters above the fjord. And you can also step out on the Kjeragbolt. Please check out this picture to see what I mean: http://donar.netpower.no/~ghk/norway/Nikki%20and%20Gard%20on% 20Kjeragbolten.jpg

Cheap and easy beaches near Bangkok
Hua Hin and Cha Am are adjoining beach resorts a few hours south of Bangkok. You can travel by road, plane or even train. Ideal as stopover point for onward travel down the Thai coast and to the Gulf islands. Not as well known as other Thai resorts and hence cheaper and although excellent facilities still retains the charm of a real Thai resort region.

Hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon
In November 2001 we went to the Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. This is about 2 hours drive north of Flagstaff which is on one of the main Amtrak cross-country routes. Anyway, while the view of the canyon is absolutely stunning from the rim, we would strongly recommend that you actually get down into it, and hike right to the bottom, to the Colorado River. It's a mind-blowing trek down into another world, through several climatic, floral and geolog....
